Done for Challenge Wednesday by Jeremy of The Boi Poet. This week’s lines of poetry are below and we are to link back to Jeremy:

  • This loneliness feels more ordinary in the light – Waiting for Rain by Ellen Bassdec weds
  • The unfathomable knowledge behind your face – Dog Dreaming by W S Merwin
  • In Sunshine and in Shadow – Elderado by Edgar Allan Poe

Facade

This unfathomable facade
that you call a face
only drips loneliness
from a black well
its discordant gurgling
ancient and mysterious

this unfathomable facade
that you call a face
hides a pain so deep
from the dredges of a broken oath
a palpable throbbing of drums
pulsating on the altar of tattered virginity

alas, do not block the sunshine
from loving hearts around you
silent witnesses to your empty shadow
unwilling partners to your primal suffering
must they avert their gaze
from this unfathomable facade
that you call a face?
