Thursday Fibonacci: Flames

The photo is by kind permission of Gilly.

Today, instead of a Tanka, I’m trying out the Fibonacci sequence for the second time. Being so bored lately, I’m trying to challenge myself to see where I can go with it. With the Fibonacci the number of syllables in each line must equal the sum of the syllables in the two previous lines. So, start with 0 and 1, add them together to get your next number, which is also 1, 2 comes next, then add 2 and 1 to get 3, and so on. The Fibonacci sequence is: 0,1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21

Poetry: 1 syllable, 1 syllable, 2 syllables, 3 syllables, 5 syllables, 8 syllables, 13 syllables, 21 syllables and so on .. Not an easy form 🙂

my dormant passions

a prequel to the velvet night

mesmerizing moon and dancing silhouettes of ideas

effervescent, they yearn for that cathartic release amidst verdant soils of the mind

passions bursting forth in kaleidoscopic shimmers, they glow with the crocosmia in the early morning sunrise, sweeping me to exhale.

Of My Jumbled Thoughts and Kenyan Jewelry.

21 Thursday Aug 2014

Displaying 2.jpgI’m going out of my way today to pour down my thoughts. I’ve been boggled with so many things whirling in my mind for the past two months or so. As you would all note I post about two or three times a week instead of the previous almost daily affair; I’ve also been participating less and less in challenges. Not that I don’t have anything to write about but I’m beginning to question the purpose of it all.

Anytime I read posts where bloggers question the purpose of what they do I just smile and shake my head not really getting what they mean. I guess I’ve been hit too. Apart from the fact that I’m much more busy at work, I find that there’s little joy in what I’m doing on the blog these days. Please do not get me wrong, I get excited when my work is praised and I do try to make time to visit, comment and appreciate or like posts from bloggers. But is that all there is to it? Am I missing something? Am I doing it right? I’m afraid I’m loosing it all.

Maybe I need a break. I don’t know. My well-meaning blogger friends have been urging me to publish, poems or stories. Whatever! Even as my first draft of my work-in-progress is nearing completion, I still am not excited. I’ve done quite a number of book reviews both on my bog and on amazon upon request. But I ask ‘who will be interested in this jazz?’ (as we say here).

I know I ought to break and take time off the blogosphere to re-charge. If I had enough money I would just pack my bags and head off alone to a luxurious hotel here, or maybe outside, for about one month and chill. I will remain incommunicado for the whole period.  🙂 Alas! So my dear friends, pardon me if I don’t visit your blogs as often as I should.

On the brighter side, my aunt who lives with her husband in Kenya visited home this month. She wants to set up a business over here, selling Kenyan jewellery and accessories. I think it’s a great idea since we’ve been hooked on authentic African  stuff for some time now as a people. I believe it’s all part of the ‘sankofa‘ or ‘go back and take’ or ‘go back to your roots‘ rediscovery agenda. 🙂

According to my aunt Veronica, I could check the internet for authentic Kenyan custom jewelry for verification. Apparently they are in high demand even here. People post free ads in Kenya all the time so this should not be a problem. . Now she wants me to help her with this since she believes I might have some connections (erroneously I might add) but who wants to burst her bubble? I will do the best I can when she is ready.  There’s some excitement bubbling in me at the thought of this fine venture and my expectations.

Displaying 1.jpgIncidentally, my aunt narrowly escaped death in the upscale Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya last year September when gunmen opened fire and gunned down about 60 or so shoppers at the Mall. She was in the mall shopping and from her harrowing narration, I can only say it was not her time.  🙂

Done for Haiku Horizons. Today, my haiku is about the pain I’m having in my heart, a physical one as I saw videos of the horrors going on in Iraq. Please if you have the time, visit Lotenna Blog. Kindly note that the pictures are disturbing, to say the least.

ache sits on my heart, I bleed.
