Done for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration. Today the prompt is the quote below:
Rebirth
today my memory failed me
searching the abyss of despair
for that gloom hugging me like a second skin
today my memory failed me
as I listened to that cacophony of words,
searching for the deep resonance
that used to caress me to sleep.
I almost grasped it,
but then it slipped through my gaping fingers,
a snarl slapped me instead.
today my memory failed me,
gliding through the haze of lies based on aspects of truths,
the shaky facade of carefully coated words slipping
to reveal the bare bones of
semantics in its degraded form.
today my memory failed me,
delving deep into yester-years
to desperately seek a day
when the moon stood still
on a fast wilting bed of roses
the thorns drawing blood
from you and I
today my memory played tricks on me you know.
my memory failed me.
my memory refused to
regurgitate the left-over of a passion long gone cold
passion that now sits in my belly
waiting to pass out in a cremation of rebirth

Phew!! Blown away:))
Thank you 🙂
WOWWWWW–the ending really got to me.
Glad to hear that, Dell;. 🙂
Very well said, Celestine. It reminds me of the poem I wrote (In the Quiet of a Life) in honor of my father who died of brain cancer in 1982 after just retiring from full time ministry as a pastor. He lost most all his mental faculties including his memory as the brain tumor progressed, and couldn’t remember anything towards the end, so was sad. I posted a picture and the poem of him last year or year before for Father’s Day.
Oh Joyce, So sorry that your dad had to go through so much pain. Sometimes when a loved one is in so much pain, we wish we could do the suffering for them; it certainly is a heartrending moment. My own dad died of prostate cancer and memories of his last days remain with me forever.
Celestine,
Wow. This poem grabbed me by the heart and dragged me along through. I like the repetition “today my memory failed me”. It gave an almost musical refrain. This could make a great song lyric.
And this is a line captures lies and partial truths as being the same:
“gliding through the haze of lies based on aspects of truths”
I especially enjoyed your vivid raw passages.
This passage was fabulous:
“to desperately seek a day
when the moon stood still
on a fast wilting bed of roses
the thorns drawing blood
from you and I”
Keep writing, Dear.
Alice
