Done for Haiku Horizons. We’ve been rationing electrical power here for almost three years now. This is what I sometimes do on days I can’t sleep, when the whole area in is darkness, except for one or two homes that have gen sets. 🙂

what a delightful sight to behold….Lovely haiku, celestine 🙂
Thank you Panchali. It’s been a while. 🙂
It’s good that you can use the time for creativity, are generators too expensive?
Yes, that is those that are very good. Much of the market is flooded with cheap stuff from China. Our house is rather large (started the building when this problem was not there) and so will require a plant more like. 🙂 🙂
Those stars hold so many mysteries from the past. If only they could talk, what might they say?
I wonder, Kathy. 🙂

I love stars. I’m glad you can find a good side to rationing. So far we only self-ration water for four years. No one is turning the water on and off for us… yet.
I’ll go out and look at the stars and think of you tonight. They are the same stars. 🙂
Yes my friend, they are the same stars. 🙂 I’m sure of the two I would choose water any day over the lights. 🙂
I would choose water over lights any day also. 🙂
Beautiful, once again.
Thank you D Wallace, as always. 🙂
and what a lovely sight that might be 🙂
It is Archana. 🙂
That must be nice to see the sky without man-made light competing. What happens to the food in your refrigerator?
Oh Kimmy, ask again. We only cook what will be enough for a day or two. 🙂
Read an article that the singer Akon is working to get better electrity in Africa. I hope it gats better. Sorry if I asked before my memory sucks.
Well I hope he adds Ghana to the agenda. 🙂 Kimmy, your memory sucking is nowhere near my situation. I even forget me children’s names sometimes. 🙂
Mee too. I go in a room to get something and stand for a few seconds trying to remember what it was. The when I go sit down I remember. SMH
LOL 🙂
such a wonderful thought! 🙂
Thanks Apurva. 🙂
star gazing is really soothing and addictive!
Yes, it can surely be. 🙂
Wonderful verse, and I can relate although we aren’t rationing power here. I just have a problem with insomnia very bad and will go all night long with no sleep sometimes like last night, even with the help of Melatonin, a supplemental sleep aid. So, with a little coffee in the morning I am trying to last till bed time again and hope to catch up on missed or lost ZZZZZs. 🙂
Oh so sorry to read this Joyce. I don’t have a problem with sleep except when I have a lot on my mind. In that case, do you take opportunity in the day time to catch up?
I do hope you do not pack your days full so you can have some winks. 🙂
Thanks, Celestine. I think that much of my restless sleep lately is because of all the recovery and pain I went through going through major surgery and recovery from my recent ‘total knee replacement’ two months ago. It is the second one as I had the other knee done 4 yrs ago and during these times I got little sleep with the on going pain, etc., but have been fully rehabbed with a lot of therapy and bouncing back. And I think my sleep habits will improve, now. 🙂
I believe so too, Joyce. 🙂
Very realistic ,Celestine/ Iloved it.
Thank you ma’am. 🙂
There is something to be said for simple times…
where people actually looked to the stars for stories and directions.
I know that some states have ‘rolling blackouts’ and strongly recommend or even give sort of bonus points for not using electricity during peak usage.
Lovely haiku. 🙂
Thanks, Jules. You know we humans condition ourselves to any situation. I am used to the lights off now and I actually look forward to those days when I can admire nature and the handiwork of God. 🙂
You would have enjoyed our sunset this evening… a red-orange sun with the clouds creating shapes on it’s face. The storm that is supposed to dropping off some rain moved and changed the patterns.
I can’t imagine not having power at the flip/flick of a switch. However, I’m so glad that you use the black-out times to stargaze!
Birdsong Is Past
More often my bedroom window which overlooks a wide street in front of the house, is my peephole. My hubby prefers to sit outside in the dark but the cold affects my bones. 🙂
