Today, I write a Septolet on the theme Abuse. (A septolet has seven lines containing fourteen words in two parts. Both parts deal with the same thought and create a cohesive picture.)
(1)
sultry air
his breath
slides down
my back
kissing
the wounds
of his lashes
(2)
dawn
her cries pierce
the pain
and
none hears
his guttural release
of incest

Goodness the sheer horror of those images…the cruelty is palpable. I don’t know how poetry will make a difference in the end, but if everyone writes about it..maybe someone will listen, no? Thank you for sharing these. May these victims find peace and justice.
Poetry has to make a difference Rajani. The power of the written word, and now spoken word cannot be underestimated. 🙂
I sincerely hope so… I know so few non-poets/writers who read poetry that I keep questioning its reach. Won’t stop me from writing though.. we trudge on in hope.
