Pathway to Freedom

In my dreams I walk this pathway to freedom,
strewn with steel thorns
lips shackled with padlocks rusted in blood

In my dreams I walk this pathway to freedom,
these azure skies spurring me on
from this prison I call windows

In my dreams I walk this pathway to freedom,
new winds blowing from the horizon
floating words in desperation
born from bleeding minds
the gasping breath of labour pangs

In my dreams, I walk this pathway to freedom
lips bursting their fetters
my soul singing L I B E R T E
because I walk this pathway with you

1 x 50 x100, Flash Fiction, Madison Woods, Publication

Title:        1 x 50 x 100 Flash Fiction
Author:     (Edited by Madison Woods)
Binding:    Kindle
Genre:      Varied
Pages:      81
Publication Date:  2013

Reason for reading:  From TBR.

Flash Fiction Anthology CoverAs already posted on this blog, myy 100-word flash fiction, Rays in My Heart  is part of the anthology of 50 stories written by 50 authors from around the globe now available in ebook form (kindle) and hard copy. Edited by Madison Woods formerly of the Friday Fictioneers fame, 1 x 50 x 100 Flash Fiction is a collection of 100 words flash fiction based on one photo prompt!!!

What I find amazing about this collection is the varied genres of the stories, all highly imaginative and perfectly flavoured and all making sense. Each person will find his favorite genre here; fantasy, historical fiction, horror, romance, paranormal, science, poetry, speculative, and yes faith-based. My favourites include She Walks in Beauty by Janet Webb and Surrendering by Joyce Johnson.

The writing is simple, easy to understand, full of humour. The best thing is that you can read this collection at one sitting! I read my Kindle edition in under 30 minutes!!!

I recommend 1 x 50 x 100 Flash Fiction to every one! More especially lovers of the flash fiction!!

Grab your copy here: You will never regret it! :-)

Written for Friday Fictioneers wonderfully handled by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields with a photo prompt by David Stewart.  100 words exactly! Crits are welcome!!

Missing

dinner bell david-stewartThe croaking of the school bell was a relief to the pupils and Ms Kumi watched her class skip out with a wicked grin, thinking of the test she would administer after the break. Teaching in this deprived school was a challenge she was determined to overcome.

She got up to visit the washroom only to notice Esi behind her desk. “Aren’t you going for break?” The girl sniffed, wiping her nose.

Lately, Esi’ schoolwork was lagging. A discreet note to her parents had been ignored.

“What’s the matter?”

“My father didn’t come home yesterday.” She whispered, in tears now.

Written for Friday Fictioneers wonderfully handled by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields with a photo prompt by Janet Webb.  Crits are welcome!!

Second Chance

Photo copyright: Janet WebbDesiree raised a manicured eyebrow in surprise at the man who had just walked into her lounge.

‘You’ve been drinking.’ Desmond said pointedly at the glass of Sangria in her hands.

‘Oh?  Join me.’ She took a languorous sip. But he ignored her sarcasm. ‘You wouldn’t take my calls’

‘So?’

‘Desiree, it’s Valentine, can we put our differences aside for once?’

‘Oh, you started it all.’ She flung the words at him, her beauty startling. Desire shot through him, stunning him and all the fight left him.

Taking her in his arms, he whispered. ”Desiree, let’s start afresh.’

The Will

Written for Friday Fictioneers ably handled by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields with a photo prompt by Bjorn Rudberg. 101 words this time. Crits are welcome!!

The Will

Copyright - Björn RudbergHe made his way down the hill towards the farmhouse. For a moment, the lush green of the surroundings distracted him and he paused to take everything in. If only she would agree. He pushed aside his doubts and continued.

In the living area, she waited anxiously to tell him the news. Her old man had been clear in the will. Merge the two farms. He said nothing about merging of bodies.

Her hands trembled when she opened the door to his knock. ‘The doctor told me everything. The baby needs a father.’ And then he smiled. ‘And I need you.’

Christmas, shoes, Shoes for the Children!

Written for Friday Fictioneers ably handled by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields with a photo prompt by Adam Ickes. 100 words exactly based on a true enough story!!

Shoes For The Children

http://kattermonran.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/adamickes-childsboots.jpg?w=225&h=300The people of Kusi were dreading Christmas. They had no money to provide goodies for their children. The previous year, harvest had been bountiful and Christmas had been celebrated with a candlelight procession throughout the village, accompanied by brass band music.

Now, a gloom hung over the village. Even the cocks refused to crow! And then one afternoon, the sound of the gong-gong was heard miles away. The Chief’s daughter who had been in ‘Amrika‘ studying was coming home with pairs of shoes for every child in the village! And lots of eatables! Now the cocks strutted in glee!

#FridayFictioneers: I’m Back!

Absence, MIA

Hi lovely folks, I am back after a long and rather rude (without a word) break. Do pardon me for that. 🙂  A good look at the photo prompt kindly provided by Ted Strutz and I knew immediately I had to come back. Thanks to you Ted and Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Crits are welcome.

I’m Back

Copyright - Ted StrutzI came back the same way I left. By Sea. The crossing was very calm this time and this gave me the opportunity to reflect on many things. Like why I left the Fictioneers. I was having a good time with them, no doubt. Most Fridays found me rushing off to work to enable me post my hundred words ahead of my work schedules.

I needed space to hone my poetry skills. And sometimes, my muse simply refused to come alive with some prompts.  Poor excuse. But I missed the members so. And now I am back for good I hope. 🙂

#FridayFictioneers: Stallion

Horse, power, stallion

It’s that time again, and the fun is on all over the blogosphere. Thanks to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for generating the fun which this Friday is supported by the ‘manly’ prompt provided by wonderful Douglas M. MacIlroy

My 100 words are below: Do feel free to critique and comment. I wrote this post last week for the FF but the power-rationing in my country and related poor internet connectivity prevented me from posting it on schedule. I just had to post it at all costs today though. 🙂 My story for this week’s prompt will come up on Saturday.  I’m sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Stallion

Copyright -Douglas M. MacIlroyStallion woke up with a start, heart thumping wildly. It was pitch dark and perhaps that made him see the faint glow through the tiny split in door.

He felt a sense of dread at the sound of familiar ear-splitting cries accompanied by  thuds.  He  had to act fast before the village was wiped out. Stealthily, Stallion felt his way out of the watch-post towards  ‘Power’. Whispering to calm him down, he  mounted the horse and rode away from the danger.

Daylight found them exhausted as they trotted to a halt in front of an astonished chieftain.

‘Bandits!’ Gasped Stallion as he slid down in a swoon.

#FridayFictioneers: When The Heart Decides

Relationships

Thanks to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields and the kind Lora Mitchell for making it possible for the Friday Fictioneers to once again have a go at 100 words flash fiction courtesy of the prompt below: Do feel free to critique and comment on my offering for this week. Thank you.

When the Heart decides

Copyright - Lora MitchellAs he droned on, I blanked out, not wanting to hear his bitterness anymore. This will never stop, I realised with a  sickening feeling, gazing  out of the window.

The scene below held me mesmerized; the town was washed in glittering lights and every home was bathed in hallowed glow. The gaiety of the festival season was reflected in the hearts of the home owners, I was sure of that. Unlike my heart, for the gall in his soul had seeped into mine.

Turning back, I switched off the TV set, my mind firmly made up.
