Miracle, A Poem

My son Cedric penned this poem and I just had to post it here.

Miracle

Is my life ending?

I lie on my bed

My mind in turmoil

I try to the best of my ability

But I still can’t shake off this feeling

That something can go wrong

If only I can turn back the wheels of time

I will make it right

2

I do not go through this alone

Many others feel the same anxiety

Only I am a little less apprehensive

Because there is a sliver of light penetrating this darkness

Believing in the Divine Being that keeps me moving

Believing that a miracle will come my way

The day of reckoning has come upon me

She writes sweet and sensual African, multicultural and interracial romance, which happens to be her favourite genres of romance to read. Her interest in writing started around the age of thirteen after she stumbled upon a YA story her sister had started and abandoned. The story fascinated her so much that, when she discovered it was unfinished, she knew she had to complete it. Somehow the rest of the story began to take shape in her mind and she’s been writing ever since.

Title:      Seasons Defined:Poems of Love and Seasons
Author:  Khaya Ronkainen
Binding: Kindle
Genre:    Poetry
Pages:    26
Publication Date: May 30, 2018

Publishers: QuillInInk Press

Blurb

Seasons Defined is a short poetic memoir, where seasons are placed in a position to define love, home and the journey to self as made by an immigrant. Each poem shows a different aspect of that love, its time, its infancy-to-maturity, its human foibles and desperate fears, its temper and its passionate love. This is a love cycle from spring to winter.

My Thoughts

I hardly review poetry and as a poet that is real funny. I have quite a number of Seasons Defined: poems of love and seasons by [Ronkainen, Khaya]poetry books I’ve read and enjoyed but hardly a review. But this is different. Maybe I am biased but this is Khaya’s poetry, 🙂 and a beautiful one at that.

Seasons Defined by Khaya Ronkainen is a wonderful   collection of sixteen nature poems, truly a beautiful ode to nature and love. Khaya’s words are a lovely blend of seasonal aromas and elegant whiff of romance. I liked every bit of poetry in this book. I particularly like that in almost all the poems the poet links nature to love, she sees love at play in the seasons. Love defines her seasons and the seasons define the love she has found. The reader can see into her soul through her words, and this is exquisite!

Through the poet’s choice of words one can almost hear her laughter and feel her joy in the various seasons of winter, autumn, summer and spring. Khaya also celebrates her country, Finland in her poems. She celebrates the landscapes and the people and the joys and sorrows. The poems reflect feelings of gratitude at the peace and solitude she finds in her adopted country.

Khaya Ronkainen is an amazing poet and I urge all to get copies of her Seasons Defined to feed your souls through the changing seasons.

“Did I scare you?” Adam joked from behind Letitia while they both kicked out their legs softly to keep afloat in the swimming pool.

She shook her head to dislodge water from her ears. “Not really. I wondered who had the nerve to hold me from behind.”

Swirling around to face him, she watched him flick both hands over his wet hair and his eyes grinned at her.

“How old are you?” he mouthed just as two men raced past doing the front crawl with their arms under water.

Lifting her hands out of the water, she pushed her hair out of her face. “All of twenty-nine.”

Floating closer to where she was, he chuckled. “You don’t look a day older than twenty-three.”

Even though she knew he was being a gentleman, she giggled as warmth crept up her neck.

It felt good to receive such glowing compliment from a man who wanted nothing from her. He hardly knew her.

“Thank you. I feel twenty-nine for sure.”

“What does that even mean?” His lips formed into a wide grin as if he had no clue what she meant.

Three young men swam past, but one of them winked at her as he lifted his head to take in air.

Adam had his back to them, so he did not notice.

And she tried not to grin. “You know, like I don’t feel the same as I did when I was fifteen. And you, how old do you feel?”

With one arm, he circled her waist and he led her to the pool edge. “Swimming here with you now I feel like I’m eighteen again. But I’m only thirty-five.”

He hauled himself to sit on the poolside.

“Come and sit beside me,” he told her giving her his hand to help her up the side of the pool.

She took his hand and she joined him on the cool tiles. “I would not have guessed your age. I thought you were under thirty.”

For her accolade, he caressed her shoulders with two fingers and made his way toward her neck. She skewed her head as she burst out giggling.

Already, sweet tickles dripped from his fingers through her cleavage with far too much speed.

Feeling self-conscious at his closeness, she tightened the rope of her bikini top and bottom when she stopped laughing.

“It feels good to hear you say that, Letitia. Are you dating actively at the moment?”

For several seconds she stared at him wide-eyed. Adam’s gaze was relentless as he waited for her reply.

“I’m keeping that close to my chest.” She got a kick out of needling him since she just found out he had man-sized jealous bones in his sculpted body.

“Don’t make me crawl through your chest in search of my answer.” The words spoken gruffly carried an underlying threat.

Unable to contain her shock, her eyes sparkled with excitement. “Not in front of everyone, you wouldn’t, Adam.”

When he leaned forward, his eyes assured her he intended to carry out his threat, so she promptly changed her response.

“Okay. I’m dating.”

No emotion flashed through his face as he asked. “Are you seeing someone in particular?”

This beautiful Cherita below was written by Mish D Sleeper (Sky). And this is what she says:

Last few days I read some beautiful poetry written by my wonderful friend, a fellow blogger and author Celestine Nudanu. She introduced me a new form of poetry called Cherita that I found it very inspiring. I have a feeling that I will spend this summer challenging myself to write many and many of them. This is my first one and dedicated to my teacher Celestine!

Thank you so much Sky. I’m humbled. 🙂

BLURB

When the pain is all you have, letting go is not an option.A Time to Part by [Pomaa, Ama]

Seven years ago, Jasmine left everything she knew behind. Her mother had killed herself, her father was terminally ill, and she had broken off with Hagan, the only man who ever loved her. It was the perfect time to start over. Except she never did part with any of it!

When a tragic incident forces her back into the past, she’ll have to decide if letting go is too high a price to pay for everything she wants.

REVIEW

Ama Pomaa’s debut book, A Time To Part, is fast paced, griping and full of suspense. The plot unfolds as you read along, with the suspense and intrigue building up and sustained very well till the end. The story telling is crisp, sharp and witty so much so that the pathos, poignant and profound sentiments running through the book appear somewhat subdued. Reading the book, I find myself equally angry, disbelieving, sad, and yes redeemed at the end. A family’s dysfunctional tendencies, with far-reaching consequences on its members seem to suggest that evil does not pay; this also underpins the book’s Christian or inspirational message.

The main plot evolves round Jasmine and Hagan, whose budding relationship is torn apart by hatred, jealousy, deceit, and familial betrayal. A subplot or a story within a story, involves Kojo, Jasmine’s brother and Doris, their houshelp. But the author skilfully weaves the subplot into the major plot and any awkwardness in the development of the full story is eased away by the seamless cohesion.

Jasmine is hurting bad. So bad to forget what has been done to her when she was a child. And she has secrets too, secrets that push her into the dingy hole of a brothel to satisfy the craving in her for expiation. She thinks her only redemption is in saving Selase, Hagan’s 12-year-old sister, from a fate that is worse than her own, for she has been there and knows the score. Will Hagan be able to forgive Jasmine, who has destroyed his life in a most unimaginable way and now comes back into his life at a time when he least expects? Will Jasmine even want to set aside her prejudice and receive his forgiveness? Will the two forgive each other in time to save Selase?

Kojo’s  inaction, cowardice and inability to stand up for the truth in defence of his sister leads to a rift between him and Jasmine. He goes through a hard time to find redemption. Again his  irresponsible behaviour as a youth and careless ill-treatment of Doris the house help, haunts him, with far-reaching repercussions on his life.

Hagan and Doris believe in the goodness and forgiving power of God. Hagan, a medical doctor is conflicted about his feelings for Jasmine and the pain of her betrayal which keeps haunting him. When Jasmine’s quest to save his sister Selase goes awry he relies on his communion with God to forgive her and move on with his life.

Doris comes across as a saint in the book. Do saints really exist? Perhaps so as the author seems to suggest that the healing touch of Christ can have such impact on a person who has been dehumanised just like Kojo does to Doris.

Jasmine and Kojo coming from the same background of wealth and deceit find it difficult, in their own way, to let go of their past. Kojo, haunted by his misdeeds, feels he does not deserve anything good. He is also out for blood to avenge the death of his wife, even though he thinks her death is karma working against him.

Jasmine has lots of scars that drive her life. And as she continues to make one mistake after the other in her education and career choices, and even in her new mission of saving Selase, it takes grace and the love of the one man she has hurt to make her confront her demons and to reconcile with her past.

Ama Pomaa’s characters are well-rounded and authentic and yet flawed with human foibles, as they go though tribulations that define their actions and decisions, which shape them into finding redemption. The main heroine, Jasmine is a strong woman, determined to forge her own path, whether good or bad. Despite her past tribulations, she does not crumble. Perhaps it is this singular strength and sense of purpose that sustains her throughout the novel as she finds herself ultimately.

Through riveting and yet crisp narrative and dialogue, the author is able to portray the effects and far-reaching repercussion  incest, rape, adultery, lies, deceit, and dishonesty can have on a family. The reader is carried along throughout the novel, on a suspenseful journey of self discovery of the major characters. The reader would also be shocked into realising that not all the characters seem to be what they are. As the author seems to suggest, one cannot be certain of anything in this world, except the love of Christ.

Ama Pomma’s ability to dissect thorny themes of murder, rape and incest in her book without sounding raw and weepy should be commended.  Not a mean feat. Though a Christian or inspirational novel, A Time To Part can also be classified under the Christian Romance genre. The author strivers not to sound preachy and didactic and she achieves this very nicely.

A Time To Part is well researched book, the author knows her characters and settings so well. I also find the cover to be stunning. 🙂 My only issue with the book is why Hagan delays in taking his sister from the home of her guardian when he is in a position to do so. That does not make sense to me. I must add that this does not detract from the story in any way. It is just a minor issue with me.

I recommend A Time To Part for all lovers of suspense, romance and inspirational books, and indeed lover of literature.

Folks, another beautiful review of Haiku Rhapsodies from Debbi Antebi, UK. Thanks a million, Debbi.

REVIEW

Delightful Collection of Haiku, 20 Jun. 2017

Spanning five main themes, Celestine’s poems make us see, hear, smell, taste and touch, as well as feel. Her haiku depict stories that are universal, and they do so through vivid imagery. One of my personal favorites is about a mother gathering her unsold melons at Exquisite haiku and senryu from Ghanasundown. This haiku evokes feelings of sorrow and hopelessness in twelve short syllables, capturing big emotions in a concise way. I have many other favorite poems in the book, and I am confident that the readers will enjoy exploring them just as much as I did. Strongly recommended for all poetry lovers!

“The question is why would a magistrate judge be spotted dancing on a bar table in nothing but a bra and thong in one of Europe’s beach clubs? And then appear serious on Monday morning in a London courtroom wearing a wig and black gown?” While he waited for her answer, he took a passing look around her chambers.

Thick, leather-bound books graced wooden shelves on every side, but the room was immaculate and clean. Grey carpets complimented the beige upper walls. The gold and black name plaque on the desk indicated her name was District Judge Ronke Oni.

“What I do with my time is none of your business,” Ronke snapped as she swiveled around. But a sly grin wired her full lips as she got up on her feet. Gone was the dark gown. And so was the funny wig. Now, her silky white ruffled top fell wide open, enough for him to see the swell of her cleavage.

Peeling his eyes away from her chest was not easy, but he tried. With the black skirt suit plastered around her body so tight, she looked like a bomb waiting to explode. Electric currents flashed through his body and he laughed to quench the upsurge. Up close, she looked a little older than he’d thought, still, she was a raving beauty.

“And what was it you wanted from the dancer?” Ronke asked with her arms folded beneath her busts, pushing her breasts further out of her top. And for a fleeting second, he wondered if she wedged her full breasts with a lacy bra.

“Are you kidding me, Ma’am? You’re not going to deny the fact you’re an erotic dancer over the weekend and a learned woman during the week?”

With her butt perched against her curved walnut desk and her legs crossed at the ankle, she looked like a sexy model about to strip off her clothes for the camera. And as long as he was the photographer, they would have an album of perfect shots.

“Since you took the trouble to trace me down here…” she started.

Quote from Enticed Forever

“I can’t move on. She has everything I never knew I wanted in a woman.” – Theo Galanos

Blurb

~ An Attraction…so Irresistible ~

Millionaire bad boy, Theo Galanos has two things worked out. Women want anything money can buy. And he has no problems keeping them sweet as long as his heart is not involved. But when he hits a car and sends it spinning off the road, he meets Aize, an attractive woman in a figure-hugging dress who wants nothing he has to offer. Nothing prepares him for the body-popping tension which grips his chest and nearly sweeps him off his feet.

Aize must find the President of Galanos Holdings, get him to approve the all-important contract if she must secure the promotion she wants. But the mysterious man, rumoured to be Hampshire’s bad boy is hard to catch. When her car is bumped off the road and she opens her eyes on a hospital bed, the exotic-speaking and muscular man staring down at her sends shock waves through her cleavage. Faced with the sexy man who only gives a woman what money can buy, Aize is torn between giving up on her promotion and allowing her heart sway her head. Will Theo let go of his selfish desire?

Teaser

Aize raised her eyebrows at the insane assumption she would even consider going anywhere with Theo – a man she had just met.

‘You will be in good hands,’ the doctor carried on. ‘Theo has assured me he will drive you home and make sure you follow my advice. I understand your car is quite a wreck at the moment.’ Doctor Garrick emphasized the word, wreck as if she needed a reminder. At least she was not dead, a damaged car could be replaced.

Narrowing her eyes at Theo, Aize whispered, ‘Are you a doctor or a nurse? And why do you think I’ll go anywhere with you? I could always take a taxi.’ But the idea of getting into a taxi in her condition made her want to puke.

Shaking his head with his brow furrowed, Theo spoke gently in her ear. ‘Although I’m neither a doctor nor a nurse, there’s nothing a week’s rest, good food and tender loving care can’t put right in your situation. I will look after you if you’ll allow me.’

Theo’s heated breath blew her skin hot and her body trembled. Not to mention his vibrating voice in her ear. Pressing her lips to keep from moaning out loud, Aize nodded. There was no point exchanging words with this man, he just did not give up.

‘Okay, you win,’ she conceded just to get Theo off her back.

Her self-imposed caregiver for the next week stretched to his full height and shook hands with Doctor Garrick. ‘Thank you, Doc for all your help.’

Theo’s grin, which was not even aimed at her, left a honey feeling inside her stomach.

As soon as Doctor Garrick left the room, silence took control, heightening the slowly building tension between Theo and Aize. To ease the edgy moment, she looked up at him, and he winked at her with a cute grin on his lips. Again, she lowered her lashes, but not before a small chuckle raced out of her mouth. One would think they were flirting, but Aize was doing no such thing. At least that was what she believed.
