balm, black is beautiful, ebony, Nature

Done for Carpe Diem. We are to write a haiku, senryu, tanka or kyoka inspired on the following given quote by Khalil Gibran a Lebanese writer and poet:

“forget not that the Earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair”

Smoothing Balm

her swaying tresses

in a languorous affair

with the south-west winds

I feel its ebony sheen

a smooth balm on blistered palm

Ligo Haibun Challenge: Torture

PictureTwo prompt words on this week’s Ligo Haibun Challenge.  Fascination and Torture. My choice below:

Torture

do not torture me
with your beauty;
let me partake of it.

You are my ebony doll,
slender as a reed,
majestic in your sway
like the queen of Sheba,
graceful, like a gazelle.

Your velvety smooth skin
reminds me
of melting shear butter
under the harmattan sun.
Your ringed neck,
ever so graceful
like a swan’s.

Ah, those full lips,
pouting and so ready
to do justice
to my fevered body.

Ah torture, sweet torture
I welcome you with open arms

PictureI was transfixed, drinking in his words as he read the poem out to me.  It was our tenth wedding Anniversary and we were out celebrating.

‘I wrote this for you, when I first met you. But I was too shy to read it for you. Nothing has changed all these years my dear.’

My eyes lit up as I whispered, ‘and nothing ever will, lover boy.’

under candle light
he woos me with his tongue
and the stars look down

Ligo Haibun Challenge ~ Moon

PictureThis week’s  Ligo Haibun prompts are two photos, of a moon and well, some figurines I am sure :-). Another honourable mention, the third for last week’s Haibun that I wrote. I’m very grateful to all the three judges for deeming my work of some worth. Again, thanks to all my lovely friends out there who continue to support me in my journey of better writing.

Moon

blue moon

I have always had a love affair with the moon. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no werewolf. Perhaps I had better re-phrase that. I love the full moon on a velvety dark night. The blueness of its light around the peripherals of darkness reminds me somewhat of the aureole around the smooth darkness of a pointed breast. And later when I first met my wife right under the moon’s radiance, those breasts, jutting out of the sheer flimsy garment she wore, assaulted my masculinity. She was my moon.

The first time we made love was under the knowing wink of the moon. We basked in its incandescence.

Now, Diane smiled sweetly at me, her luminous eyes huge in her ebony face. I gazed at the moon peeking through the solemn darkness as it started to blossom into fullness. There were no stars up there but that was fine with me. I had one in my arms, cooing softly.

ebony night
moon winks at my baby
I count my blessings
