4th November, 50 Years, Birthday, Gratitude, My Jubilee

My Jubilee

on the eve and threshold

of the most important day of my life,

I look back on my forty-nine years

whispering Jasmine-flavoured words

of thanks to my Maker.

For thus far He has brought me.

2

the welcome chirp of birds to rouse

the slow stream of rays through dawn

the heady scents of blooms to brighten

even in the almost silent zzzzinnnng of waters

a rush of lullaby to still my fevered spirit

I see your might

3

ever gently, pushing, urging, calming,

cradling, nurturing, molding

mere clay to refine

I am what you have made me

I am because You are

Alpha and Omega

4

I sing because I am happy

I sing because I am free

I sing because your face has shone upon me

not for forty nine years

but for fifty years

I sing my Jubilee!

Done for Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Heeding Haiku with HA. This week, we are to analyze everything that we can at this very moment of time and write a haiku or tanka or both to commemorate these few moments of this day of our lives.

All Woman

woman, all woman

unbound by these static  lore,

daring to ascend

2

passionate woman

power of the written word

burning in my soul

3

shamelessly woman

these breasts pulsate with desire

for him of my dreams

my womb tastes sweet agony

of birth pangs, cries all is well.

Gratitude, joy, victory

Done for Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Heeding Haiku with HA. This week we are to carefully analyze an emotion within ourselves, attribute a word to it and then let it out in the nature of a haiku or tanka. This is a re-work of an earlier poem. 🙂

Joy

my joy  un-fettered

heart flutters in abandon

above snarling waves

but wait, I shall not drown.

for my  praise is magnified

by echoes of gratitude

 2

my halleluyah

soars above buffeting tides

pummeling currents

I refuse to be sucked in

I’m graced to be a victress

Of Gratitude and Awards

Aburi Girls Senior High School, Awards, Gratitude

Over the months, (did I say months?) Yes over the months, I have received many awards from wonderful blogging friends that I have not acknowledged. I must admit that sometimes, it feels lazy and monotonous to keep acknowledging these lovely awards. But etiquette and good neighbourliness dictate that you say thank you for every gift received, be it little or small. In the African culture, one wakes up at the crack of dawn to say thank you to anyone who brings you a gift, be it cash or kind.

In that vein, I have been going round saying thank you, ‘me daase‘ to all friends, loved ones and sympathizers who mourned with me during my father’s funeral a couple of weeks ago, be it in cash or kind, all who traveled the long distance to support me, my co-workers, friends and mates from the Class of 1985 of my Alma mater, Aburi Girls Senior High School, and the Uni, my in-laws, relatives from my mother’s side,  (they were all there in their numbers). Since my return from the funeral I have been going round on weekends, with my husband and mother to thank all these wonderful people.  The co-workers received their thanks during the week-days.

I would be remiss if I don’t extend the same heartfelt gratitude to you all who have shown so much support and, extended so much love my way during my bereavement. I know I have skimmed the surface of my thankfulness in other posts, but we say in Ghana that ‘lots of fish and meat in a soup do not spoil the taste’. So do bear with me as I express my truest appreciation and humbling love to you my blogging friends. Like I keep saying to my ‘buddies’ in Ghana, such love overwhelms me. I promise that in due course I will post some pictures of the funeral on my blog. 🙂

Now, my deep thanks to all the lovely friends who have honoured me with so many awards over the months. I am truly grateful.  God bless you all.  The following bloggers are being honourably mentioned and if I have forgotten some, do pardon me. It is a genuine oversight. 🙂

January Small Stone #17: It Is Well

Gratitude

Jan '13 Mindful Writing ChallengeDay 18 of Mindful Writing Challenge. My 17th stone.

It Is Well

It is so quiet in here; almost all the staff members have gone home and as I sit here all alone in my office to write this stone, I can only appreciate the peace that this opportunity offers me to contemplate on my day’s work and say with gratitude in my heart to God, “Sufficient unto the day O Lord. Your mercies are abundant on me.”

Soon, I will be going home to the warmth of my two younger boys and hubby. (and not necessarily in that order) It is well. 🙂
