Whispers of Dawn: A wonderful book you’ll keep coming back to! 🙂 So says Brendon Kent, Author and poet from the UK. Thank you my friend. 🙂

Cherita is relatively new in the grand scheme of poetry having only been created in 1997 by Ai Li. It is a poem which consists of 6 lines and tells a story.
At the beginning of the book, Cherita is defined as follows:
“Cherita is the Malay word for story or tale. A Cherita consists of a single stanza of a one-lined verse, followed by a two-line verse, and then finishing with a three-line verse. It can be written solo or with up to three partners.”

Whispers of Dawn is a wonderful collection of these short story poems by Celestine Nudanu.The book is broken down into 6 themes; Whispers, Making Love, The Dark Side of Love, Death, Saving Grace and Random Thoughts. There are 85 poems in this collection. All poems in the book are centralized with one poem per page.
Celestine is not afraid to tell it as it is…her stories are real, heartfelt and soul-searching.
In the Whispers section, the beautiful;

the way

the petals open
to reveal sunlight

this morning
your smile opened the door
to a new beginning

In the Making Love section;

see me

fall to pieces
as you strum

on the breeze
andante
andante

and in the Dark Side of Love section;

the day you left

you left
with the sunshine

how time flies
this sunshine
in my baby’s smile

The next section is Death;

dark clouds

billowing curtains
close his days

I watch, helpless
as his breath fades
with my memories

In the Saving Grace section;

in my distress

I seek your face
beyond the blue vastness

a whisper, just a breeze
will do
for this soul on fire

and finally in Random Thoughts this very apt poem;

today

you and I will sing
with the wings

for with the storm brewing
a tomorrow
is not certain

Whispers of Dawn is a collection you will want to read and reread…I know I will be!

Brendon Kent
author and poet

Cherita, Ghana, Gillena Cox, Publication, review, Whispers of Dawn

Here is a wonderful review of my book Whispers of Dawn from my blogging friend in Trinidad & Tobago, Gillena Cox.

Yes she has done it again! Celestine Nudanu has dipped into her conscious yin and yang pulling out some trinkets for us; some sparkly as fine-cut diamonds, some dark as somber onyx. She has spilled across pages more than 50 poems called cherita. Telling her personal stories and sharing her cultural essence.

Choosing this concise genre to detail issues such as love, longing, despair, gratitude, death and self-realization, is no easy task, yet this is the holy grail that this poet embarks on, and succeeds in her attainment, as ‘Whispers of Dawn’

The cherita is a 6 line poem which tells a story, in fact it is a Malay word meaning story and is a form created by Ai Li.

Ai Li, in her foreword of this collection remarks, “The cherita genre could almost have been created just for Celestine, for her to gift to us her stories”

Best wishes with your outreach pursuits for a fine collection of poems, dear Celestine. Certainly, this is not a book you can read only once.

THANKS FOR AGREEING TO BOOK SWAP Celestine [ i have sent her a copy of my ‘Pink Crush’.
much love
gillena

Afriku, Ghana, Gillena Cox, Haiku, Haiku Rhapsodies, Lunch Break, review

My friend and haiku poet from Trinidad and Tobago, Gillena Cox recently received a copy of my debut poetry collection, Haiku Rhapsodies in a book swap. I received a copy of her lovely collection, Moments which I’m currently delving into.

With her kind permission, please read below Gillena’s review of HR which she originally posted on her blog, Lunch Break.

Review of ‘Haiku Rhapsodies (verses from Ghana) by Celestine Nudanu

‘Afriku’ opens the rhapsody, with a serenade of rushing streams and weighted sun dances. Our hearts are steered to a few sampling from nature’s basket – of humanity, hunger and loss, and the mystery of divining.

bamboo flute
rushing stream calms
the savannah

black night
the voodoo priest
shivers at the moon

market day
the stench of unsold wares
fills her stomach

These micro aha moments traverse to wider meanderings, for the inclusion of a Ghana secular in a global essence. Her chapter ‘Nature’. Shares such moments as

carnival
masquerades display
autumn

At the chapter ‘Haiku My Heart’, i paused a little longer in reflection, for the naming of this chapter, made me go back to first meetings with this sister haijin. We met through the linky redirecting of listed blogs at ‘Recuerda Mi Corazon’ – a Haiku blog hop hosted by Rebecca Brooks. So it was through blog hopping that i first read the works of sister haijin Celestine Nudanu. But this is side tracking a bit.

Celestine chapter ‘Haiku My Heart’ sensitises us to icons of family, sentimental, and passionate love. Here her ‘i-she,’ flaunts, who is Celestine.

mother’s pride
his bead earrings
adorn me
(for Cyril)

chocolate delight
Valentine’s day
on my tongue

And finally in her chapters ‘Divine’, followed by ‘Death’; here she identifies for us glimpses of life in: joy, nature’s share of blessings, pain, and strife by a unique perspective, that is Celestine.

raindrops
ticking off the days
to Easter

fresh lilies
the little girl’s gift
sways the coffin

These are some of the signposts, planted along the way in Celestine’s rhapsody: the high roads, the low roads, the mud tracks, the lighted paths; as she takes our hand and invites us to journey with her, through her heartland Ghana. She presents in her epic wanderings gems of glittering haiku. Taking us along treks of delight, mood swings of teardrops, and the pauses for extra pensive murmurings from our heart.’Haiku Rhapsodies (verses from Ghana) is a definite must read, or you don’t know what you are missing. Thanks Celestine for a journey and a serenade unique to Ghana.

Haiku Rhapsodies, Kimberly Floria, review

My dear friend and satisfied customer, Kimberly Wilhelmina Floria who purchased her kindle version from Amazon has this to say about my poetry collection, Haiku Rhapsodies. 🙂

https://readinpleasure.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/83035-haiku2brhapsodies.jpg?w=138&h=204Celestine once called me the queen of Haiku. This was before she made an attempt to write her first. I just dabbled with writing a few but my heart wasn’t into it.

It is a true reality to name Mrs. Celestine Nudanu the true Queen of Haiku. Her relationship with nature and her view upon life helps her words in visual art in the minds of those who read her words. Celestine is truly adept in the skill of weaving words into the poetry of Haiku. Give yourself a treat and read this collection.

Thank you so much, Kimmy darling. 🙂 This means a lot to me. 🙂

Now, what more can you ask for? Grab your copy now from UPSA, Ghana or download from Amazon with just a click. You can also order the Paperback edition from Amazon. 🙂
