Is a lovely marriage enough?

Ghanaian designer, Efua Flonta has a marriage and a life many women dream of. Her Seduced Hearts: A Body ~Tingling Romance by [Eromonsere-Ajanaku, Stella]heart lies with her racy husband, Xavier and two young children. Her marriage vows are sacred until she meets a man who threaten everything she holds dear.

Sexy formula one racing champion, Xavier Flonta wants nothing more than to please his beautiful wife and children. When an old friend stops over, he does not bargain for one weekend of trouble. Will Efua and Xavier pull together to save their marriage in time for Christmas or will the hurt be too painful?

My Thoughts

Marriage can be a beautiful experience or journey if all the cards are played right and the partners involved love each other genuinely. For Efua and Xavier Flonta, everything is perfect, or so it seems. They both have damaging secrets that even their steamy nights and days cannot overshadow.

I read this book overnight. Fast paced just like the formula one driving Xavier, full speed and when I finished I knew I had really landed with a whoosh. 🙂

Stella has written a romance that makes one question the validity of one’s marriage vows especially in the face of such agonising and explosive revelations by the parties. But in the end, forgiveness becomes vital to keep the marriage together.

What is striking about Seduced Hearts is the strong extended family links. In Ghana, we say when you marry a person, you marry the whole family; Xavier and Efua have strong links to their extended families and the two entities are pivotal in the reconciliation, though in the end, Xavier and Efua have to fight their own demons, come to terms with their flaws and ultimately decide to let love prevail. Yes, as I mention flaw, let me add that both characters are nicely flawed and that make them human. Did I love the characters?  Hmm, Xavier is my man, and when you read the book you will know why. 🙂

I give Seduced Hearts five ‘heart-shaped’ stars and highly recommend it to all lovers of romance and those who are interested in knowing about Ghana

“Did I scare you?” Adam joked from behind Letitia while they both kicked out their legs softly to keep afloat in the swimming pool.

She shook her head to dislodge water from her ears. “Not really. I wondered who had the nerve to hold me from behind.”

Swirling around to face him, she watched him flick both hands over his wet hair and his eyes grinned at her.

“How old are you?” he mouthed just as two men raced past doing the front crawl with their arms under water.

Lifting her hands out of the water, she pushed her hair out of her face. “All of twenty-nine.”

Floating closer to where she was, he chuckled. “You don’t look a day older than twenty-three.”

Even though she knew he was being a gentleman, she giggled as warmth crept up her neck.

It felt good to receive such glowing compliment from a man who wanted nothing from her. He hardly knew her.

“Thank you. I feel twenty-nine for sure.”

“What does that even mean?” His lips formed into a wide grin as if he had no clue what she meant.

Three young men swam past, but one of them winked at her as he lifted his head to take in air.

Adam had his back to them, so he did not notice.

And she tried not to grin. “You know, like I don’t feel the same as I did when I was fifteen. And you, how old do you feel?”

With one arm, he circled her waist and he led her to the pool edge. “Swimming here with you now I feel like I’m eighteen again. But I’m only thirty-five.”

He hauled himself to sit on the poolside.

“Come and sit beside me,” he told her giving her his hand to help her up the side of the pool.

She took his hand and she joined him on the cool tiles. “I would not have guessed your age. I thought you were under thirty.”

For her accolade, he caressed her shoulders with two fingers and made his way toward her neck. She skewed her head as she burst out giggling.

Already, sweet tickles dripped from his fingers through her cleavage with far too much speed.

Feeling self-conscious at his closeness, she tightened the rope of her bikini top and bottom when she stopped laughing.

“It feels good to hear you say that, Letitia. Are you dating actively at the moment?”

For several seconds she stared at him wide-eyed. Adam’s gaze was relentless as he waited for her reply.

“I’m keeping that close to my chest.” She got a kick out of needling him since she just found out he had man-sized jealous bones in his sculpted body.

“Don’t make me crawl through your chest in search of my answer.” The words spoken gruffly carried an underlying threat.

Unable to contain her shock, her eyes sparkled with excitement. “Not in front of everyone, you wouldn’t, Adam.”

When he leaned forward, his eyes assured her he intended to carry out his threat, so she promptly changed her response.

“Okay. I’m dating.”

No emotion flashed through his face as he asked. “Are you seeing someone in particular?”

With no plans to forgo her current no-strings secret affair, she disappears without a trace, hoping never to see the stranger again. “The question is why would a magistrate judge be spotted dancing on a bar table in nothing but a bra and thong in one of Europe’s beach clubs? And then appear serious on Monday morning in a London courtroom wearing a wig and black gown?” While he waited for her answer, he took a passing look around her chambers.

Thick, leather-bound books graced wooden shelves on every side, but the room was immaculate and clean. Grey carpets complimented the beige upper walls. The gold and black name plaque on the desk indicated her name was District Judge Ronke Oni.

“What I do with my time is none of your business,” Ronke snapped as she swiveled around. But a sly grin wired her full lips as she got up on her feet. Gone was the dark gown. And so was the funny wig. Now, her silky white ruffled top fell wide open, enough for him to see the swell of her cleavage.

Peeling his eyes away from her chest was not easy, but he tried. With the black skirt suit plastered around her body so tight, she looked like a bomb waiting to explode. Electric currents flashed through his body and he laughed to quench the upsurge. Up close, she looked a little older than he’d thought, still, she was a raving beauty.

“And what was it you wanted from the dancer?” Ronke asked with her arms folded beneath her busts, pushing her breasts further out of her top. And for a fleeting second, he wondered if she wedged her full breasts with a lacy bra.

“Are you kidding me, Ma’am? You’re not going to deny the fact you’re an erotic dancer over the weekend and a learned woman during the week?”

With her butt perched against her curved walnut desk and her legs crossed at the ankle, she looked like a sexy model about to strip off her clothes for the camera. And as long as he was the photographer, they would have an album of perfect shots.

“Since you took the trouble to trace me down here…” she started.

Aize raised her eyebrows at the insane assumption she would even consider going anywhere with Theo – a man she had just met.

‘You will be in good hands,’ the doctor carried on. ‘Theo has assured me he will drive you home and make sure you follow my advice. I understand your car is quite a wreck at the moment.’ Doctor Garrick emphasized the word, wreck as if she needed a reminder. At least she was not dead, a damaged car could be replaced.

Narrowing her eyes at Theo, Aize whispered, ‘Are you a doctor or a nurse? And why do you think I’ll go anywhere with you? I could always take a taxi.’ But the idea of getting into a taxi in her condition made her want to puke.

Shaking his head with his brow furrowed, Theo spoke gently in her ear. ‘Although I’m neither a doctor nor a nurse, there’s nothing a week’s rest, good food and tender loving care can’t put right in your situation. I will look after you if you’ll allow me.’

Theo’s heated breath blew her skin hot and her body trembled. Not to mention his vibrating voice in her ear. Pressing her lips to keep from moaning out loud, Aize nodded. There was no point exchanging words with this man, he just did not give up.

‘Okay, you win,’ she conceded just to get Theo off her back.

Her self-imposed caregiver for the next week stretched to his full height and shook hands with Doctor Garrick. ‘Thank you, Doc for all your help.’

Theo’s grin, which was not even aimed at her, left a honey feeling inside her stomach.

As soon as Doctor Garrick left the room, silence took control, heightening the slowly building tension between Theo and Aize. To ease the edgy moment, she looked up at him, and he winked at her with a cute grin on his lips. Again, she lowered her lashes, but not before a small chuckle raced out of her mouth. One would think they were flirting, but Aize was doing no such thing. At least that was what she believed.

I live with my parents and six brothers and sisters in a small house in Dagor Village. My friends and family call me a matured child because according to them, I speak older than my age.

Good to meet you, matured Ebele. How do you know a certain woman, called Adaora Dike who is the heroine in a new book, titled Wild Whispers?

You are very funny. Ah, Auntie Adaora is my good friend. She lives in this beautiful, big, green and white bungalow in the woods a small way from our house. I first met her as I searched for my lost coin under the dried leaves near her house. She helped me find my coin and she invited me to her house and gave me homemade biscuit and milk. She is the kindest person I know.

Sounds like you like Adaora a lot. Does everyone in Dagor Village know and like your Auntie Adaora?

Not at all. It hurts me to hear all the horrible things the villagers say about Auntie Adaora. They don’t even know her or speak to her but they judge her from afar. Even my parents come home telling tales about what they have heard others say about Auntie Adaora in the market square. I think some adults are not nice to strangers. It is so sad. But I’m not one to judge people without knowing them. So I made friends with her. Now I know Auntie Adaora and I don’t believe the mean things everyone else says.

Wow! You are one feisty young lady, Ebele. So do your parents approve for you to visit Auntie Adaora?

Shish! Can I trust you to keep a secret? You must not tell my parents about my visits to Auntie Adaora. I want to keep it quiet.

You can trust me to keep my mouth shut. Do you think Auntie Adaora has any special person she cares about?

Not until recently. I think the strange man who she helped likes her a lot. But Auntie Adaora does not know she cares about him yet. But I like him already. Gary is nice. But I will wait and watch her come to like him. Sometimes, I think some adults don’t know what they want until they lose it.

I’m curious, how do you know Gary likes Auntie Adaora?

Oh I saw the way he looked at Auntie Adaora when she was not looking. Hmmm…my eyes see things. When Gary talks about Auntie Adaora, his eyes light up like the bright stars up in the sky. And he surprised her with a lovely gift so soon after they met. Only someone who really likes you brings you gifts.

That is true. Finally, if you got a small amount of money what will you get for yourself, Ebele?

For me? Oh…I will buy lots of sweets, chewing gums, biscuits and pretty shoes. And if I had some left over, I will buy the English textbook I have been telling my parents to buy for me for a long time.

I know African names always have meanings. Do you know the meaning of your name?

I do. Ebele means mercy or kindness and that is what I try to be to everyone God brings my way. Our village needs more kind people. Like people who show mercy to others.

I hope you get all you want in life, Ebele. Thank you for chatting with us. Your Auntie Adaora has a great friend in you.

Oh thank you for having me. I enjoyed our chat.
