APED – Prompt 15: Fire

Cinquain, Fire, Passion, romance

Done for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration. The prompt is Fire. My poem is another try at the Cinquain.

First line: a one-word subject or title.
Second line: two adjectives which describe the subject.
Third line: three verbs relating to the subject.
Fourth line: four words forming a phrase, sentence, or set of feelings relating to the subject.
Fifth line: one word which summarizes the poem.

The second and more traditional type is simpler and requires only that the pattern of syllables per line in the poem is 2, 4, 6, 8, 2. I combined both rules. 🙂

barbecue, Death, disaster, Fire, Ghana, Inferno, jigsaw puzzle, John Mahama, torrential rain

Dedicated to the 200 and over Ghanaians who lost their lives in a raging fire on June 3, 2015 during torrential rains. http://www.myjoyonline.com/news/2015/June-4th/death-toll-in-twin-fire-flood-disaster-hits-200.php

Inferno

they say we must be careful what we wish for

but one must wish, must one not? and dream

and if our dreams turn into a nightmare

must we not jolt from the horror,

wish away the terror and continue dreaming?

for one day the dream will turn into a reality.

a reality, their reality!

unimaginable!

yes but a reality nonetheless

of heaven opening its mouth and gushing rain

a metamorphosing inferno.

and in the aftermath,

the politicians play jigsaw puzzle with words, promises!

and we the citizens we gasp, wail, bare our teeth in morbid stupefaction.

we shake our heads and mumble had I known!

we keep wake for the charred human barbecue,

200 and still counting.

do we rail at fate, God or our own ineptitude?

this is one khebab we cannot chew and swallow.

we did not wish for it, after all.

Reds And Violets

among the lush greens

a peek of reds and violets

rendering me mute

this bouquet of a smile, love

pulsates my breathe with fire

Haiku Heights Prompt: Ripples

Accra, Fire, Ghana, Kumasi, Ripples

Today’s prompt on Haiku Heights is Ripples. And my haiku is based on bizarre incidents happening in Accra, Ghana. For the past weeks or so, there have been series of fire outbreaks in major markets in the capital city. There is so much congestion in the markets and the fact that the traders sleep in the markets (as in live there) for ease of business transaction does not make it any better. Electrical connections in these markets are also shoddy. Be that as it may, it is a bit suspicious for not one but several markets to burn at different times and locations.

Recently, the government sought the expect help of US officials to help investigate the cause of these inferno and we are all waiting for the findings.

Ripples

Thick billowing clouds
Business hub up in flames
Blistering ripples
